History:
» Aerith Gainsborough, the last of her kind, was born to her mother Ifalna and father Professor Gast. Shortly after said birth, her father was killed by a certain Professor Hojo while she and her mother were kidnapped and experimented upon for the next seven or so years until they managed to escape from Shinra Headquarters. The pair made it as far as a train platform in the slums before Ifalna died from the fatal wounds she sustained. A woman, Elmyra, waiting for her husband to return from war, promised to keep Aerith safe and, thereafter, raised her as her own daughter.
Tseng, a Turk, attempted to convince Aerith to join Shinra willingly, but she refused, and, for a time being, she was allowed to grow up without the impending threat of capture over her head. During this lull in the storm of her life, the little girl found that she could hear the Planet speaking to her. Aware of her heritage, she attempted to keep it secret and attempted to pretend she wasn't what she was. Her need to keep it a secret, though, perhaps led her to the one place in the slums she could hear it most keenly. In church in the slums, she managed to grow a small patch of flowers.
And it was in this church at the age of fifteen that Aerith Gainsborough met Zack Fair after he fell through the roof of her church. After turning down his offer for a date in repayment for saving him, the girl agreed to show him around-- during which time he bought her her infamous pink hair ribbon-- including a park where she admitted to her fear of SOLDIER members and their love to fight. After dealing with the awkwardness after Zack admitted to being from SOLDIER, Aerith found herself taken away by the color of his eyes and general demeanor, pleased to know that he promised to see her again.
For the next two years, Aerith's life remained mundane, the only noteable occurrences being her phone calls and dates with Zack. It was only after Angeal's death and Zack's subsequent visit to her church to mourn that any part of her life seemed to alter. He suggested that she sell flowers, to fill Midgar with them and her wallet with money, and despite her fear of the sky, Aerith considered his idea and accepted the flower cart made for her for that exact purpose. Unbeknownst to her, it would be the last time she'd see her love alive.
During his absence, Aerith found herself watched over by an Angeal Copy and the Turks who attempt to keep her safe from AVALANCHE. Despite the efforts of the latter, though, she did find herself having a conversation with someone from the group, presented their goals and what they meant for her. Along with the sudden spike in activity in her life, Aerith wrote Zack eighty-nine letters, unsure of where he was or whether he was safe, and it was as she tended her flowers one day that the Planet told her something she'd rather not have known.
In what seemed to her a very short time later, Aerith found another man falling into her church, one she recognised from a brief meeting beforehand. Before she could properly get to know him-- though he already reminded her of Zack very much-- Turks arrived to capture her. Offering a date for payment as a bodyguard, she employed Cloud Strife to help her escape to her home. Once they arrived, he seemed interested in finding a friend, Tifa, and she offered to help me find her the next day.
In a whirlwind of happenstance and coincidences, she and Cloud, who found himself crossdressing, found themselves to extract Tifa from a situation from which she didn't need extraction, and, later, herself hiding Marlene at her home just before capture by Shinra. She was freed soon after due to Sephiroth's convenient attack on Shinra Headquarters and the heroic efforts of Cloud, Tifa and Barret. Slowly understanding what Sephiroth's appearance and Shinra's goals mean for the planet, Aerith accompanied the ragtag bunch on their pursuit while also slowly understanding her duties as a Cetra.
Upon reaching the Temple of Ancients, Aerith helped the group find the inner chamber where Sephiroth revealed his plans in the usual villainous monologue and then attempted to manipulate Cloud into giving him the necessary Black Materia to call Meteor. Aerith, of course, attempted to stop him and was attacked. Thankfully! Cloud passed out which gave her the convenient opportunity to contact him in a dream to tell him she was going off alone to stop Sephiroth.
Underneath the Forgotten Capital, Aerith prayed upon the altar for Holy using the White Materia in her hair, and just as she finished, Sephiroth descended upon her like a bird of prey, and she was killed. Of course, as everyone knows, you can't keep a good woman down, and when it seemed that Holy was too late to properly stop Meteor, Aerith, from the Lifestream, commanded energy from the planet to, in fact, save the planet. If only that were the end of the dead woman's troubles.
Shortly after defeating Sephiroth, she found herself consoling other dead people along with attempting to halt the spread of Geostigma in the Lifestream. Despite the help of other Cetra spirits and her attempts, Aerith found herself unable to stop the spread, and so she attempted to contact Cloud to stop it on Gaia. While showing Cloud how the children infected with Geostigma could be healed-- it would be by the healing rain she'd shower upon the Planet and pool within her church-- Aerith also tried to help him come to terms with his grief, aided him in the battle against Bahamut SIN, and drew Kadaj and his brothers into the Lifestream again.
Aerith assumed that, finally, her work in the Lifestream would be done, and that she might, perhaps, rest in peace. Unfortunately, or fortunately, La Terre had other plans. Plucked from the Planet's blood, she was reborn again in a strange land, flesh and blood once more and instilled with magic she'd long forgotten.

As she knelt beside him, Aerith began to feel something hit her head and shoulders. Her brow furrowed at the whispery touches until she noted a dark feather slipping past her shoulder. She was being covered in feathers. Blinking a few times at the idea, Aerith tilted her head up with a faint frown, assuming Sephiroth was drying his upper wing with a force hard enough to leave him a bald bird. It was only as her head tilted down again, that she noted her own feathery touches were met with similar results. How odd, she noted absently, wondering if he left a trail of feathers behind him everywhere he went and how bothersome that must be. Instead of asking, she simply paused in her work, allowing the feathers from above to pool around her body and upon the crown of her head.
It wasn't until he moved the wing she was working on that her hand jerked out quickly to pull it back toward her and finished. Feeling the towel between her fingers, she decided a new one was in order for the next wing and removed her hand from his form so that she could push to her feet again. A feather fell before her face, and instinctively she reached for it, catching the tip between her fingers; her eyes slid to the silver haired man's face and found him staring at her, and thinking it was about the feather she held, Aerith blew it away self-consciously. They didn't move, though. Her eyes flickered away every few seconds, her feet stuck in place, and each time she moved them back, Sephiroth was still staring.
Eventually, she decided that a question was in order, but as she moved her lips to speak, he beat it to her, the word causing the knitting of her brow. "An elixir," he said, and she recalled asking Zack to get her one-- or, well, asking Sephiroth who she thought was Zack. The knitted brow further drew together in confusion at why he had mentioned it again. Surely he wasn't going to get her one; the idea of it was beyond ludicrous. Allowing her eyes to find his again, she found them still on her, but elsewhere, fixated on what she assumed to be her chest and the bandages wrapped around it.
All at once, her brow unfurrowed and rose, eyes wide, lips ready to express a noise of pain. A free hand flew to her abdomen instinctively, and her shoulders hunched, expression suddenly, quickly morphing into one of unabashed and unadulterated fear of him and of the pain she expected to come. The expression in his eyes was one he hadn't had all night; it was chilling, freezing her veins and the breath leaving her lips. Now she understood what he meant. Screwing her eyes closed, Aerith realised that he was stating an elixir was unnecessary, that he was going to end her life where she stood. And yet, instead of the cool blade piercing her skin, there was nothing.
In the moment of silence, she very slowly uncurled from her defensive position and tilted her gaze back to Sephiroth's face, wondering if he perhaps wanted to see her face as he delivered the finishing blow and finding that he wasn't even glancing in her direction, eyes no longer holding the same insanity they had before. Releasing a breath she didn't know she was holding, Aerith watched with a blank face as he disappeared from her house. How...anti-climatic, she decided, surveying the mess he'd left behind on her floor. Grabbing another towel and bending to her knees again, Aerith knelt again to clean, first picking each feather from the puddles and gathering them in one hand. She checked her loose strands of hair for any, probably missing one or two before eying them again curiously, no longer worried someone was staring at her.
They were soft, and she thought it ironic that a very cruel man was covered in so many soft things. Thoughts drifting back to the possible trail of feathers he left behind on a daily basis, Aerith wondered that if she gathered them each time they happened upon one another and she left fully functioning whether she'd have enough feathers to make a pillow. And as quickly as the thought surfaced, she pushed it away, deciding that a Sephiroth feather pillow was one of the oddest things she'd ever considered and didn't need to be one of the thoughts in her head. Shoving the pile of dark feathers upon her coffee table-- she didn't know what else to do with them-- Aerith then proceeded to mop the water up with the pile of towels, pushing to her feet to toss them in her sink when she was finished.
Once that was done, she flicked a wrist to light the logs in her fire place, a small fire spell dragged from her fingertips, and then went to refill a new bowl of water and place herself on her couch next to the towels to change her bandages herself. There was a pause in her actions; she slid slowly to grab her phone to ask Zack to come by the next afternoon rather than that night if he had even gotten her message-- an odd feeling in her chest considered the chances of Sephiroth returning, though the chances of that were slim, and decided that she didn't want her poor home blown down by two fighting wolves. Satisfied she'd taken care of everything, Aerith resumed her slow, pained unraveling of bandages.
Just as she was trying to decide how to wash the slashes upon the back of her arms and back, footsteps resounded near her doorstep. Zack had come, she decided instantly, reaching to pull one of the unused towels against the front of her chest. He'd already helped her a previous time, her upper body exposed for all to see; there was no need to go scrambling for a shirt. Pushing off the couch, Aerith moved to the front door, unlocked it and pulled it wide open, intent upon telling Zack that he really shouldn't have wandered out in the rain and intent upon asking if perhaps he had missed her second message. Instead, she learned from previous mistakes of mis-identification and looked up to see who it was.
Sephiroth.
There was no pause, no widening of her eyes. Like the last time, she took a second for confusion before moving on as if nothing were strange about him coming to her home. Though, instead of asking him to come inside, she assaulted him with a question that had formed in her mind during his absence. "Why did you save me from the Heartless?"
Aerith then allowed her eyes to shift away from his face to note that he looked as soaked as he did the first time he appeared on her porch. Taking a few steps back, she moved from the doorway, a silent invitation for him to come back inside. A few more towels would be in order, though, she decided, sparing her floor a glance, and it was somewhere in the silence that she noted a bag within his hands. Cue brow furrow. Without thinking, Aerith asked dubiously, "You didn't kill anyone for that, did you?"
